Volunteer Profiles: Ragul Mohan
by Tyson Dimayuga
“The day I got my job offer from AutoCapital Canada is the same day I got confirmation that I was approved to volunteer for ACCESS.” Ragul Mohan, Loan Review Officer volunteer of ACCESS Funding Capital, fondly recalls these milestones.
Ragul is an experienced finance professional originally from India who immigrated to Canada in 2019 and has been actively volunteering for ACCESS ever since. He is part of the committee that interviews and assesses applicants applying for small business or foreign credential loans.
He currently works as a credit analyst for AutoCapital Canada and says ACCESS’s programs are different from financing companies. “The work we do here has a personal touch compared to conventional banking; we do a more in-depth review of the applicant’s profile which includes their character and goals.”
“Most of the applicants are newcomers to Canada with many dreams and hoping for a better life. I will never forget my first loan application review; I saw the great joy on the applicant when the loan was approved.” He recognizes that due to various reasons, applicants face financial struggles in obtaining professional designations. ACCESS’s Foreign Credential Recognition Loan program supports newcomers in reaching their professional goals. As an immigrant himself, he truly understands how foreign credential loans will open career opportunities for newcomers.
“When I landed in Canada, I started to look for job opportunities, and many told me how volunteering could gain you more professional networks.”; this was his initial goal when he signed up to volunteer. Two years later, he shares how volunteering has become an integral part of his life and how his finance background and passion for helping the community have supported the organization’s initiatives.
Ragul expresses immense pride in how ACCESS has been changing people’s lives and how volunteering for the organization helped him grow and integrate into Canadian society. He is thankful for the networks he has made through the organization and wants to encourage more people to volunteer for a great cause.
